These instructions will assist you while you are getting ready the night before and the morning of your surgery.
Eating and Drinking

DO NOT eat or drink after midnight – this includes water, coffee, mints, candy or gum.

DO NOT drink alcohol after 6 p.m. the day before your surgery.

DO NOT smoke or chew after midnight.
Medication
- Certain heart, blood pressure and seizure pills may be taken the day of your surgery, with a small sip of water for each pill. Please check with your nurse or doctor if you take medication for the previous reasons.
- Aspirin or aspirin products (i.e., Excedrin), vitamins, herbal supplements and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (i.e., Advil, Ibuprofen, Aleve and Motrin) should have been stopped one week prior to your surgery unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
Safety and Other Things to Remember
- Arrange for someone to transport you home and stay with you for at least 24 hours after your surgery.
- Make necessary childcare arrangements for children.
- For patients under 18, a parent or guardian must sign consent forms. Guardians must present their copy of the court order granting their guardianship of the minor when registering and on the day of surgery.
- It is required that a parent or legal guardian stay in the surgery waiting area during a minor’s surgery and recovery period.
- Do not use lotion, perfume or oils on the area where you will be having surgery.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can also wear home after your surgery.
What to Bring
- A case for your contacts/glasses, dentures or hearing aid in order to protect them.
- Crutches, cane or walker if needed.
- A valid photo ID and insurance card.
- A form of payment for your co-payment or deductible.
- Current list of medications you are taking, including vitamins and herbal supplements.
- Pacemaker or defibrillator product ID card.
- Inhalers, CPAP settings, mask and tubing, if applicable.
