Finding a possible heart problem is the first step. Treating those problems takes the experts of Saint Mary's Center for Cardiovascular Care, using one or more of the treatment options listed below:
-
Ablation: A minimally invasive procedure to restore normal heart rhythms.
-
Accredited Chest Pain Center: As the region's only Chest Pain Center accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, Saint Mary’s strives to significantly reduce mortality rates by reducing treatment time and increasing the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment.
-
Cardiovascular Surgery: Coronary artery bypass and/or valve repair/replacement
-
Cardioversion: A non-invasive procedure to restore your heart's normal rhythm, using either medications or electrical impulses.
-
Coronary Intervention: If your doctor determines that one or more of your heart's arteries are significantly blocked, a coronary intervention (balloon angioplasty, stent and/or atherectomy) will be performed to open the artery and increase blood flow to your heart muscle. This procedure is performed by placing a small balloon across the narrowing in the artery and inflating the balloon to open the artery. Often, a stent, which is a small metal device used to hold the artery open, is placed at that same time.
-
Emergencies: Our specially trained emergency physicians and staff are prepared to treat heart attacks and other emergency heart problems 24 hours a day.
-
Endovascular Surgery: Minimally invasive surgery.
-
Intracardiac Ablation: Using 3-D mapping of the heart's electrical conduction system, the doctor can visualize and then eliminate the sources of irregular heart rhythms.
-
Intracardiac Defibrillator (ICD) Implantation: An ICD is an electronic device that constantly monitors your heart rate and rhythm. When it detects a very fast, abnormal heart rhythm, it delivers energy to the heart muscle. This causes the heart to beat in a normal rhythm again.
-
Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE): An invasive procedure, performed along with an EP study or intracardiac ablation. A miniature sound probe (transducer) on the tip of a coronary catheter is threaded through the coronary arteries and, using high-frequency sound waves, produces detailed images of the interior walls of the arteries.
-
Myocardial Biopsy: An invasive procedure that involves the use of a small catheter with a grasping device on the end to obtain a small piece of heart muscle tissue that is sent to a laboratory for analysis.
-
Pacemaker Implantation: A pacemaker is a device that sends electrical impulses to the heart muscle to maintain a suitable heart rate and rhythm. A pacemaker may also be used to treat fainting spells (syncope) and congestive heart failure.
-
Peripheral Intervention: Used to open arteries in the renal system and extremities, using a similar procedure as the coronary intervention.
-
Vascular Surgery: Used to replace or repair other blood vessels that are needed for healthy blood flow.
